It’s a miracle

Way back in 1999, I incurred about $26,000 in student loans. I have gone through years of paying when things are flush, to years of deferment when things are not, and by the time I got to 2023, the deferred interest had compounded making my new total $48,000.

Yup, fo’ real, $48,000.

I’m like, “I will NEVER be able to pay that off,” and it has been a source of dread for me for the past 20 years. I mean, how am I going to make payments on my minimal social security when I retire?

So yesterday, I logged into my student load account, absolutely dreading what I would find there, but to my great surprise, I found this:

It still hasn’t really sunk in. I just sat there for a long time just staring at this notice. Then I checked multiple other areas of the site to try to confirm I wasn’t seeing things. I mean, I didn’t even get any notification at all, just BAM you’re forgiven.

So that means that when I retire, I won’t have that huge debt hanging over my head.

Thank you, Biden Administration. Thank you. It’s the nicest thing a president has ever done for me. 🙂
