The day of the dead

November 2 is the official holiday, but because it is also paired with Cuenca’s Independence Day, it’s like four days of festivities. Banks and businesses close, and Cuenca is filled with events, parades, traditional foods … and so many people.

This is the Plaza de San Francisco, and there were a lot of vendors here today. I found two cute pairs of slippers for under $20 in total. I also found some Guayaba (Guava) candy and homemade macaroons, which I purchased with the joy of a small child. I loves me some guava!

The music brought me here, and this guy is really good!

And there was so much art! This painting is magnificent. That is the artist, on his way to set up his art for sale.

I think this was my favorite. Santiago Clavijo is the artist.

Mixed medium, with book print! Very cool.

Hard-boiled quail eggs, anyone?
There were several of these booths where crafters were making bracelets with your name or other words on them.
Someone is off-key, but no one seems to mind.
But this was the highlight for me. This man brought his goats into town to sell fresh goat milk to people. He literally milked them there in the street. I love Cuenca!
